Justin Ihnken, Co-Founder and CEOThis is where QNTM Labs—a Denmark-based cannabinoid research centre—takes centre stage with innovative and cost-effective solutions for testing, analysing, and researching medical cannabis products. “We aim to be experts in the medical cannabis sector, offering qualified testing and the specific expertise needed to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with local jurisdictions, whether it beat the country level or at the EU level,” states Justin Ihnken, Co-Founder and CEO at QNTM Labs.
Established in 2020 after the Denmark government started a four-year pilot program for the medical use of cannabis, QNTM Labs fills the void of qualified testing laboratories in Denmark to further the growth of cannabinoid products in the market. “We started the company from the ground up to specifically target, focus and execute on what customers need in a market and in an environment that is consistently developing and consistently evolving,” informs Ihnken. Unlike other contract research organisations that charge an outrageous amount for broad-level product testing, QNTM has developed their cannabis specific testing methods, enabling organisations to have their products tested in QNTM’s facility dedicated to product development.
Once the testing is done, QNTM Labs leverages that testing data to help industry stakeholders make actionable inferences through lab analysis, and help organisations understand their product at a molecular level. “We’re living in a world where transparency brings truth, it brings courage for others to step forward. So, we render full transparency to everything that we do, and act as a trusted partner for organisations, be it as a clinical trial and development lab testing partner for better product understanding, or governmental advisory for lab testing and safety, as well as quality control testing for final batch release of products to market,” mentions Ihnken.![]()
We aim to be experts in the medical cannabis sector, offering qualified testing and the specific expertise needed to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with local jurisdictions, whether it be at the country level or the EU level
Moreover, while big pharmaceutical companies have in-house testing facilities, cannabis producers and product developers lack a fully capacitated in-house laboratory that provides clear quality control test results. To tackle this challenge, QNTM Labs is in the process of developing a state-of-the-art 1,500 square meter GMP-certified cannabis laboratory and global centre of excellence in Denmark. At its full capacity, the laboratory will deliver robust testing and analysis for regulatory compliance, innovative research and development, as well as collaborative advisory and consulting.
With a dynamic evolution of the cannabis industry, stakeholders are looking beyond cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) to exploit the medical benefits of other cannabis compounds, including terpenes, flavonoids, and others. To that end, QNTM Labs aim to help them advance in their product development journey through testing and analysis. Besides, as the cannabis industry in Europe is inching closer to harmonising regulatory requirements for testing cannabis products across the continent, QNTM Labs is preparing to scale into new areas and markets of interest through its global centre of excellence in Denmark. “With our proficient team, cross border labs, and partnerships, we are ready to enter into new territories with expertise, in the coming years once regulatory harmonisation takes effect,” concludes Ihnken.
