“We are extremely pleased to partner with Univercells Technologies to co-develop optimized, scalable and customizable solutions for fast and affordable production of viral vectors. This partnership is an important step in VectorBuilders ambition to become a global leader in high performance commercial-scale biomanufacturing”, says Dr. Jason Ye, Vice President of Biomanufacturing, VectorBuilder.
With recent developments in cell and gene therapy, as well as growing interest in recombinant viral vaccines sparked by COVID19, the need for bespoke viral vectors, particularly GMP-grade vectors, has skyrocketed. On the other hand, traditional manufacturing technologies lack the cost-effectiveness and scalability required to meet this increasing demand. Both firms hope to use this agreement to combine their expertise, services, and existing technology to create a portfolio of optimized viral vector production methods to improve client performance and commercialization success.
“We are very excited to partner with VectorBuilder, a global pioneer in custom viral vector manufacturing,” stated Mathias Garny, CEO, Univercells Technologies. “With the complementarity of both companies expertise and know-how, we can maximize the benefits of our manufacturing technologies and offer an unparalleled solution for integrated continuous manufacture for VectorBuilders’ customers.”
The scale-X bioreactor portfolio and the NevoLine Upstream platform both provide high-performing production capabilities while decreasing footprint and expenses dramatically. The scale-X hydro (2.4 m2) and carbo (10 and 30 m2) bioreactors are extremely useful for speeding up process development and clinical validation. Univercells Technologies’ entire technology line, which includes the NevoLine Upstream platform with integrated scale-X nitro (200 and 600 m2) bioreactor, enables a smooth transition to commercial manufacturing.
In VectorBuilder’s innovative GMP Process Development facility in Guangzhou, China, for enhanced and continuous vector manufacturing at commercial scale, the scale-X hydro and carbo systems, and the NevoLine Upstream platform, are used for process optimization.
