Syntekabio and Hanmi Science have partnered to co-develop COVID-19 innovative therapies using technologies for drug repositioning.
FREMONT, CA: Syntekabio, a drug development company focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), and Hanmi Science, a producer of biologics, chemical entities, and medicines, have entered a strategic partnership to co-develop COVID-19 innovative therapies using technologies for drug repositioning.

According to the new agreement, Syntekabio and Hanmi Science will use DeepMatcher's patented AI drug discovery platform to examine the possible efficacy of existing drug candidates against COVID-19, as well as other diseases. The research on drug repositioning and indication extension would see the two companies performing clinical development activities while overseeing regulatory activities. Data from the study will be utilized to allow the creation of a clinical practice digital therapeutics platform. Besides, Syntekabio and Hanmi Science will work together to support the clinical development of the Zafirlukast-sulfinpyrazone combination therapy for Syntekabios' patented COVID-19 treatment.

DeepMatcher is built on the patented AI platform of Syntekabios for the discovery of small molecule drug candidates. The solution is a deep leaning model focused on a 3-dimensional structure that seeks the most suitable compound structures that possess significant binding affinity. The protein-compound complex's structural versatility is considered to improve predictive ability, while secondary and off-target analysis is also performed.
"Multiple therapeutics and vaccines have already received emergency use authorization from regulatory agencies, and Syntekabios in-silico simulation solution would be an optimal approach for drug repurposing," added Jongyoon Lim, CEO at Hanmi Science. "This project will be supported by the Lightspeed Task Force initiated by Hanmi Science and will mark the first-time medical contents are presented using the digital therapeutics capabilities of the task force."
