LTC residents, on average, receive 12 prescriptions per month, according to Managed Healthcare Associates (MHA) research from 2014 and 2015. 1 The presence of such huge numbers of medications raises the risk of diversion while also posing environmental and safety problems for LTC residents. In addition, when compared to traditional ways of medicine disposal, LTC institutions can save money by using MedSafe.
MedSafe is a leading DEA-compliant ultimate user medication management solution that is appropriate for usage in long-term care facilities. In addition to unneeded drug management, the MedSafe is designed to save money for LTC facilities by ensuring that medications are collected, transported, and treated in a timely and efficient manner. Since its launch in 2014, Sharps Compliance has successfully removed over 4.7 million pounds of unused medications from a variety of pharmacy settings, including government and retail pharmacy locations, with over 6,000 MedSafe collection receptacles in the marketplace and over 100,000 inner liner returns. Sharps Compliance and PharMerica have teamed up to expand MedSafe's use in long-term care settings.
“We believe this partnership presents a tremendous opportunity to provide MedSafes capabilities to a broader population of LTC locations to help them efficiently address the cost and complexities of DEA and EPA compliant medication management, while also reducing facility operating expenses,” adds David P. Tusa.
“MedSafe saves both nursing and consultant pharmacist time, and its environmentally friendly. This solution allows for the orderly disposal of controlled and hazardous medications,” states T.J. Griffin, RPh., Senior Vice President, Long-Term Care Pharmacy, PharMerica. “After piloting MedSafe for a year with one of our customers, were now excited to recommend it to all of them.”
