Madrigal Pharmaceuticals has recently reported its first patient dosed in the MAESTRO-NAFLD-1-Open Label Extension study.
FREMONT, CA: Madrigal Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has reported its first patient dosed in the MAESTRO-NAFLD-1-Open Label Extension study, a 52-week open-label active treatment extension study MAESTRO-NAFLD-1 (OLE). MAESTRO-NAFLD-1 is a 52-week, non-invasive, multi-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled research of resmetirom in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), suspected NASH, involving 1200 patients. The trial is expected to be completed later this year, with safety and effectiveness criteria including decreased imaging and biomarker measurements of NASH and lower LDL-cholesterol and other a the rogenic lipids.

MAESTRO-NAFLD-OLE permits patients who complete MAESTRO-NAFLD-1 to agree to 52 weeks of active resmetirom medication, providing this treatment to patients allocated to placebo in the main study and enabling patients who were on resmetirom to continue with their therapy with the drug.

"We have achieved positive results with resmetirom in our Phase 2 clinical trial, and the recently reported results from the ongoing open-label arm of Phase 3 MAESTRO-NAFLD-1. NASH is a chronic disease that will require long-term dosing and the extension study will generate additional valuable safety and efficacy data."
