Congleton-based international healthcare digital agency, Kanga Health Ltd, celebrated the company’s 10th birthday on 18th April.
Kanga began in April 2013 in the home office of Chief Executive Kay Wesley who was already known as a global figure in digital health. Two years later the current headquarters opened at Meadowside, Congleton, with a worldwide team including all over the UK and in Spain, France, Sweden, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and the USA.

Kay said “I created Kanga as the agency partner I wished I’d had when I was Global Digital Director at AstraZeneca. Back then we had medical agencies that were not digital experts and digital agencies who didn’t understand the regulations of the pharma and healthcare industry. Kanga is a one-stop-shop for digital strategy and delivery in the health sector, and we have an international team of experts in this space.”
In its first decade, Kanga has partnered with 38 pharmaceutical and healthcare companies all over the world to embed digital solutions across therapy areas and markets. Clients include top 20 and mid-size pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer and Ipsen, medical device organisations and healthcare charities like Cancer Research UK.
Kanga works with patients, doctors, and nurses to deliver digital solutions that can support therapies, educate professionals, assist with clinical trials and connect healthcare stakeholders. It also works with clients to help transform their business model for the digital world.
The company is ranked by PM Live as a Top 10 Smaller Creative Health Agency in the UK and has won 11 industry and business awards including eyeforpharma Europe’s Most Valuable Patient Initiative.
Last month the company won the East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce Employer of the Year Award. Presenting the award to the Kanga team, Andrew Chatterton of Frankyn Financial Management said. "This business stood out for the way in which it supports its team of widespread local, national and international personnel by truly understanding that their people are their most valuable asset. They have an absolutely tremendous culture, living and breathing their core values of equality, diversity, and inclusion".
Paul Allen, Managing Director, joined the company in its first year. He said “Kanga is quite unique amongst digital and healthcare agencies in many ways. We are not based in London or Manchester for a start, and we have a culture that is very different. In some city agencies, it is difficult to combine work and family life, but we live and breathe flexibility and as a result, we have a team of super-experienced people and a staff retention rate double that of London-based competitors.”
In keeping with its culture, Kanga supports several local Congleton and national causes including Congleton Pride, Visyon, Ruby’s Fund and Rethink Mental Health, as well as pro bono website work for Congleton Community Projects and the Vulval Pain Society. The company is a White Ribbon Supporter organisation and a member of the Working Families Network.
Paul continues “The most important goal for our work is improving outcomes for patients, and we have worked with companies, patients and doctors in many countries and cultures to achieve this. Due to the way we work, we continued apace during COVID – remote working is the norm for us, and we were able to help our clients adapt quickly in those challenging times.”
Kay Wesley reflected “Ten years ago, all I had was an idea of what a great digital health company might look like. It has been a pleasure and privilege to work with such a talented team of people to make that idea come to life and have a significant impact on the world of healthcare. I am incredibly grateful to them and to all the clients, patients, and professionals we have worked with.
“I have always believed that if you look after your people, financial and business success will follow, and so it has been for Kanga. Our number one business goal is to ‘create a workplace of happy people who love what they do’. The Chamber of Commerce Award was our proudest moment and a perfect way to start our 10th Anniversary Year.”
