Kanga hosted a comprehensive training session - facilitated by Nicola Hilliker and Rob Birley from Cornerstone Resources - aimed at equipping its team members with the knowledge and tools to understand and support colleagues experiencing menopause. The session, which covered everything from recognising signs and symptoms to exploring case studies and reasonable adjustments, sought to foster a workplace culture that values empathy, understanding, and inclusivity.
"Understanding menopause is crucial for creating a workplace that cares for the holistic well-being of our team members," remarked Kay Wesley, Chief Executive Officer at Kanga. "Through this training initiative, we aim to break down barriers, challenge taboos, and cultivate an environment where everyone feels supported and valued."
With 80% of menopausal people in employment, initiatives like Kanga's menopause training session are essential steps towards creating more supportive and inclusive workplaces. By raising awareness, providing education, and fostering understanding, Kanga is leading the way in championing workplace inclusivity for all.
The session received acclaim from Rob Birley, Director of Cornerstone Resources, who praised Kanga for its proactive approach to building an inclusive working culture. "It was a highly engaged session, confirming that Kanga is well ahead of the curve in creating a supportive working culture," noted Birley.
Kanga's commitment to workplace inclusivity extends beyond this training session. The company has been recognised by the East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce as Employer of the Year 2023 for its efforts in fostering diversity and supporting employee well-being, consistently striving to create an environment where all individuals feel empowered to thrive.
One of the judges at the 2023 East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce Awards said of Kanga’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion: "This business stood out for the way in which it supports its’ team of widespread local, national and international personnel by truly understanding that their people are their most valuable asset. They have an absolutely tremendous culture living and breathing their core values of equality, diversity and inclusion.“
According to the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, almost 80% of menopausal women are still in work [2]. Furthermore, a 2021 survey [3] by Vodafone revealed that 3 in 5 dealt with adverse symptoms while on the job and 1 in 3 actively hid its effects from colleagues and managers. Almost half said they feared being stigmatised by bringing their condition to light, highlighting the need for greater awareness and support in the workplace.
