Immune checkpoint inhibitors: Immune checkpoint inhibitors block immune checkpoints. These checkpoints keep the immune response from becoming too strong and attacking healthy cells. Blocking them makes immune cells more responsive to cancer cells.
T-cell transfer therapy: T-cell transfer therapy enhances T-cells to destroy cancerous cells by altering immune cells taken from a tumor. Improved T-cells are grown in large batches and re-introduced into the body.
Monoclonal antibodies: Monoclonal antibodies are immune system proteins that bind to targets on cancer cells. It makes cancer cells more noticeable to the immune system.
Treatment vaccines: Treatment vaccines strengthen the body’s immunity.
Cancer cells contain tumor-associated antigens. Treatment vaccines identify tumor-associated antigens that the immune system recognizes and reacts to these antigens and destroy cancer cells.
Immune system modulators: Cytokines, BCG, and immunomodulatory drugs are Immune system modulators that enhance the immune response to cancer. Hematopoietic growth factors are cytokines that reduce the side effects of cancer treatments.
Immunotherapy is one of the solutions to treating cancer, but oncology has yet to find more effective solutions in eradicating cancer. Immunotherapy research aims to bridge the gap between current possibilities and future developments.
