ORPATHYS® first commercial sale in China triggers a US$25 million milestone payment from AstraZeneca.

ORPATHYS® has been approved in China to treat patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have progressed on prior systemic therapy or cannot receive chemotherapy.
A US$25 million non-creditable and non-refundable milestone payment is triggered by the first commercial sales of ORPATHYS® in China under the terms of the licence and collaboration agreement between HUTCHMED and AstraZeneca (AstraZeneca) (LSE/STO/Nasdaq: AZN). HUTCHMED is responsible for ORPATHYS® clinical development, marketing authorization, manufacturing, and supply in China. At the same time, AstraZeneca is responsible for commercialization, for which HUTCHMED will receive a fixed royalty of 30% on all China sales.
China is home to more than a third of the world's lung cancer patients. Approximately 2-3 percent of those with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have tumours with MET exon 14 skipping alterations, a targetable mutation in the MET gene. This mutation is more prevalent (13-22 percent) in patients with pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC), a rare and aggressive subtype of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that is typically resistant to chemotherapy.
ORPATHYS® is an orally available, highly selective, and potent MET tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) with clinical activity in advanced solid tumours. It inhibits atypical MET receptor tyrosine kinase activation caused by mutations (exon 14 skipping alterations or other point mutations) or gene amplification.
ORPATHYS® is approved in China to treat patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have progressed on prior systemic therapy or cannot receive chemotherapy. It is currently being studied in clinical trials for a variety of tumour types, including lung, kidney, and gastric cancers, both alone and in combination with other medications.
