There is an increase in patient demand for speedier results, which is why automation is becoming important in medical lab technology.
Fremont, CA: Automation is critical in medical lab technologies. It has significantly altered the analytic and non-analytic components of clinical laboratory operations. The word "automation" is derived from the word "automatic." The use of various control systems to operate equipment and other applications with minimal human interaction is called automation. It also refers to intelligent and adaptable machines that reduce labor and require constant supervision. Because analytical instruments allow autonomous process control and data processing, clinical laboratories' jobs have become much easier.

Laboratory automation is still in its early stages. Patients' need for faster results has increased in response to the advancement of information technology (IT) and smarter equipment.
Here’s how automation is improving lab processes:
Sample collection
Automation in blood collection refers to enhanced, faster, and less painful scientific collecting procedures such as automated robotic or computerized systems vacutainers. Blood is collected in various color-coded vacutainers containing additives or anticoagulants; these tubes have a seal that is evacuated to generate a vacuum inside the tube, allowing a specified amount of blood to be removed. The color of the caps used to identify vacutainers is employed.
Sample identification through labels and barcodes
All samples obtained must include the patient's name and contact information, as well as the hospital's unique identification number. The same method is utilized for entering data into the auto analyzer program. For sample identification, barcoding or computer-generated barcoding technology is also employed. It has the advantage of being able to be correctly scanned or read by a bar code reader, avoiding transcriptional errors.
Sample analysis
In medical lab technology, many types of auto analyzers are used to automate the analysis process. The devices allow laboratory professionals to deliver faster analytical data, allowing doctors to make faster decisions and treat patients more quickly.
