FREMONT, CA: HALIX.B.V. entered into an agreement with AstraZeneca AB to produce a large-scale commercial drug substance AZD1222, adenovirus vector-based vaccine COVID-19. Under the deal, HALIX will arrange for the commercial manufacture of the drug product at its state-of-the-art cGMP facility at the Leiden Bio Science Park in the Netherlands. To satisfy the increased demand, HALIX is expanding with two additional viral vector production lines.

HALIX B.V. is a fully integrated biopharmaceutical Contract Production and Manufacturing Organization(CDMO) for biologics for the treatment and prevention of life-threatening diseases. The business focuses on mammalian expression systems for the processing of viral vectors and recombinant proteins. HALIX leverages flexible single-use, state-of-the-art bioprocessing technologies to provide its customers with the development and GMP production of the drug substance and drug component.With this deal, HALIX continues to play its central role as one of the Oxford University Consortium's initial members for the Manufacturing of AZD1222. The vaccine was co-invented by Oxford University and its spin-off firm, Vaccitech.

HALIX has a well-established scientific and safety track record for the production and manufacture of viral vectors used in Immuno-oncology and vaccines against infectious diseases, like HIV, ZIKA, Chikungunya, and influenza. The 6,700 m2 BSL2 GMP plant, recently licensed by the Dutch authorities and located in the Leiden Bio Science Park in the Netherlands, offers clinical and commercial processing capabilities in fully autonomous, self-contained Grade B and C cleanrooms for virus products.
