Hach's mission is to make sure that water quality for people. When the pandemic hit, Hach instantly looked to see if there was a way that we could fight the spread. This partnership with LuminUltra allowed the company to rapidly bring a product to market with the potential to slow virus spread. The company is excited to see how communities, businesses, and schools leverage this solution to positively affect public health.
Since early 2020, the company has learned a lot about COVID-19 and the SARS-CoV-2 virus that creates it. But asymptomatic transmission plus gaps in disease testing and contact tracing have made it complex to pinpoint the virus and take protective action against pandemics. Streamlined sampling and testing make SARS-CoV-2 wastewater testing one of the least-invasive warning systems available for pandemic management.
The Hach complete SARS-CoV-2 monitoring includes the line of composite samplers plus a SARS-CoV-2 onsite testing method by LuminUltra. The onsite way is based on a simple and quick extraction combined with an easy laboratory qPCR (quantitative polymerase chain reaction) analyzer, which generates results within a couple of hours. In the face of this pandemic, regular wastewater monitoring gives a view into the bigger picture of our communities' health. This non-invasive testing way is a game-changer for effectively handling the pandemic, and this partnership between the two organizations makes this surveillance tool accessible to communities everywhere.
Emerging public health research confirms the potential to identify SARS-CoV-2 almost a week before physical symptoms of COVID-19 through non-invasive wastewater surveillance monitoring. This testing solution from Hach and LuminUltra is working for community partners.
