DTRA Chem.-Bio Technologies, Vaccines, and Therapeutics Division partners with Evrys Bio to accelerate the treatment of alpha virus, arena virus, and filo virus infections.
FREMONT, CA: Evrys Bio, a biotechnology company focused on Next-Generation Antiviral, has been awarded a $34.3 million contract by the Department of Defense (DOD) to develop a drug effective against multiple high-risk viral agents simultaneously. The proposed drug aims to improve disease survival following infection with one or more viruses from the alpha virus, arena virus, or filo virus families. The broad-spectrum antiviral technology developed by Evrys Bios is based on the discovery that specific human proteins called sirtuins typically protect the human (host) cell from pathogen invasion. The novel compound will be directed against the human SIRT-2 protein.

The DODs Defense Threat Reduction Agency's Chem.-Bio Technologies, Vaccines, and Therapeutics Division collaborate with Evrys on this effort via the Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement. The milestone-based agreement anticipates a five-year development period, identifying drug prototypes and ending with proof-of-concept and regulatory filings.

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), a Department of Defense (DoD) agency, is the official Combat Support Agency for countering weapons of mass destruction (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high explosives). The Defense Threat Reduction Agency enables the Department of Defense, the United States Government, and international partners to counter and deter WMDs and improvised threat networks. DTRA is responsible for managing and integrating the Department of Defense's chemical and biological defense science and technology programs. DTRA's ongoing effort to improve its combat support mission also advances public health services by developing novel technologies that protect against biological threats.
