Fully reusable EB-Plate comes on the market at the right time as demand for 3D cell culture microplates is high, traditional plastic plates are currently in short supply, and zero-waste movements are becoming increasingly common in laboratories. As with many new environmentally friendly alternatives, it is no surprise that the reusable and nearly indestructible EB-Plate comes at a higher cost than its plastic equivalents. According to the manufacturer, the new plates pay for themselves after roughly 5-8 uses and can be reused more than once.
eNUVIO acknowledges the reluctance of moving from tried-and-tested instruments to new methods but argues that in the case of the EB-Plate, scientists need to sacrifice efficiency when switching from traditional single-use microplates to greener choices. This new plate enables researchers to generate embryonic bodies, a crucial first step in the creation of larger self-assembled 3D cultures known as spheroids or stem cell organoids. Due to the specific geometry of each microwell, uniformly large spheroids can be generated with high reproducibility, and the high-transmission plate bottom enables high-quality optical observation. The business expects researchers to benefit from this environmentally-friendly system for a long time, both scientifically and economically.
3D cell cultures are increasingly evolving as the next generation of choice methods for safety pharmacology and drug screening.
