Pharmaceutical industry pioneer adds diverse legal experience to the Vaxart senior management team.
FREMONT, CA: “I am excited to join Vaxart because of its mission to have a transformative impact on global public health," states Edward Berg. Vaxart has hired Edward B. Berg as the company's first in-house General Counsel, starting immediately.

“The company's oral tablet vaccine may increase vaccination rates and has the potential to effectively vaccinate against a number of diseases, which will help improve health for people around the world,” adds Berg.
Mr. Berg has worked in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life sciences industries for over 30 years, representing Fortune 500 and mid-cap companies. He joins Vaxart from BioMarin Pharmaceutical, where he recently served as Vice President Deputy General Counsel.

Mr. Berg spent most of his career in senior legal positions at significant health care companies. His diverse experience includes supervising teams of attorneys in commercial and clinical operations, advising on various transactions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to guarantee compliance with the industry's complex laws and regulations.
Mr. Berg and his legal team advised on product introductions and supported internal and external collaboration efforts that resulted in establishing an innovative early pipeline in the competitive gene therapy field.
Before joining BioMarin Pharmaceutical, he served as VP Legal for Sandoz US, a Novartis Company, in the BioPharm division. As the head attorney for Novartis' biosimilars/complex generics unit, he restructured and streamlined legal assistance and counseled on biosimilar product development.
Mr. Berg has previously served as Deputy General Counsel, Pharmaceutical Operations, for Sanofi-Aventis US and Sanofi NA Pharmaceuticals, and Senior Corporate Counsel, Research and Development, for Bristol-Myers Squibb, Inc. He began his health care career as a Senior Attorney/Associate Counsel at Merck and Co., Inc.
Mr. Berg earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in economics and political science from Washington University. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School with a law degree.
