Exothera will oversee designing a manufacturing method for CyanVac's COVID-19 vaccine candidate, CVXGA1, by utilizing the unique scale-XTM platform. CyanVac can deliver GMP clinical trial material (CTM) in 2021 for planned phase 3 clinical trials due to this highly-advanced platform and Exothera's guidance in process development.
CVXGA1 is a COVID-19 vaccine candidate based on CyanVac's proprietary PIV5 vector, which encodes the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein. CVXGA1 is being developed by CyanVac as a single-dose intranasal vaccine to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe COVID-19 complications. CVXGA1 is immunogenic and protects against SARS-CoV-2 infection in preclinical studies. In the first half of 2021, CyanVac aims to test CVXGA1 in Phase 1 clinical trial.
"We have selected Exothera as our CDMO to produce our Phase 3 clinical trial material because their experience with the scale-X fixed-bed bioreactor will enable us to rapidly produce millions of doses of our intranasal vaccine per batch to meet global demand," said Dr Biao He, CEO and founder of CyanVac.
Exothera's Vega GMP plant, one of two new state-of-the-art GMP facilities on the Univercells' Jumet campus (Belgium), will manufacture CVXGA1. The Vega plant is equipped with cutting-edge technologies and will manufacture vaccines for both the European and American markets.
"We are delighted to partner with CyanVac to help them bring their product to the market as efficiently as possible, by utilizing our technological platforms and state-of-the-art GMP capabilities," said Thibault Jonckheere, Deputy CEO of Exothera. "Our goal is always to work hand in hand with our clients to deliver meaningful solutions together."
