Cocrystal Pharma, in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and infectious diseases, is determined to develop a drug against COVID-19.

Cocrystal Pharma discloses a Non-Clinical Agreement (NCEA) with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The collaboration will lead to the analysis of oral 3CL protease inhibitors for the drug invention and development of COVID-19.

NIAID is a part of the National Institute of Health (NIH). NIAID facilitates and provides support to basic and applied research in drug development and treatment to prevent infectious diseases.
Cocrystal is associated with COVID-19 drug development focusing on the protein that replicates viral infection. Although there are several emerging virus strains, they require enzymes for replication. Cocrystal targets these replication enzymes through their antiviral compounds, which are tested and intended to be effective against harmful virus strains. Cocrystal is determined to develop an efficient treatment for all coronavirus diseases, including COVID-19, Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). The SARS-CoV-2 protease inhibitors proved efficient in vitro pan-viral activity against frequent human coronavirus, rhinoviruses and respiratory enteroviruses causing the common cold.
