Calixar’s pipeline to prioritize therapeutic membrane proteins validated by pharmaceutical firms.
FREMONT, CA: Calixar, a biotechnology firm with ten years of expertise in the isolation of fully native membrane proteins, announces its $1.2M investment in a new pipeline of complex therapeutic targets and native antigens of high relevance for pharmaceutical firms. This strategic investment, assisted by Bpifrance investment bank, will allow the firm to be the exclusive provider and licensor for pharmaceutical firms, with the best native and functional membrane therapeutic targets. It will also assist them in finding the best drugs and develop the best vaccines.

Drug development is becoming costly and uncertain than ever. Only a few of the drugs authorized each year bring real health advantages. This is despite significant scientific innovations and ever-increasing investment, with over $150bn invested annually worldwide. Calixar was founded in 2011 to respond to those industry requirements. Together with a research platform, it has developed its unique technology to produce high-quality native membrane therapeutic targets that cover all therapeutic areas.
Collective studies agree that the pharmaceutical sector requires optimizing its drug development model. In Calixars view, the issues faced in clinical development are related specifically to the unreliability of the therapeutic targets isolated upstream. Membrane therapeutic targets are vital as templates in the development of drug candidates, both in small molecule screening and in the manufacture of therapeutic antibodies, or as antigens in the development of novel vaccines.
There are thousand therapeutic targets in humans, yet only a few of these are currently available to the pharmaceutical sector. To address this unmet medical requirement and industry gap, Calixar developed a technology allowing the development of very reliable native therapeutic targets to enhance clinical studies' success rate and open up new therapeutic pathways.
The company will provide pharma and biotech firms the possibility of saving time and money by entrusting them to develop their future targets. Calixar will invest in 15 highly druggable targets and take on the risks for producing them in a ready-for-drug discovery format. Upon validation by its partners, they could have access to exclusive rights on the targets for their applications. The Calixar team will develop its contacts with the top biotech firms to license its pipeline and provide its platform expertise.
