FREMONT, CA: Arch Biopartners Inc., a clinical-stage organization producing new drug candidates for treating organ damage due to inflammation, has announced that the analysis of the outcome of its lead drug LSALT peptide (Metablok) Phase II trial is currently underway and that the results will be released to the public after third-party scientific critical analysis.

The Company's Phase II data team verified the patient data gathered from the seven clinical sites that participated in the trial after the last patient was enrolled in early May. After that, the database containing the trial data was sealed at the end of June, allowing the start of data analysis in late July. Every Phase II clinical site in Canada, the United States, and Turkey has been discontinued.
About LSALT Peptide and Organ Inflammation
In August 2019, a scientific team led by Arch scientists Dr. Donna Senger and Dr. Stephen Robbins published a paper in the journal Cell describing a unique mode of action for organ inflammation. The enzyme DPEP-1 was discovered as a critical neutrophil adhesion receptor on the endothelium of the lung, liver, and kidney for the first time in the study. DPEP-1 was found to be a unique therapeutic target for diseases of these organs in which inflammation is a prominent factor.
LSALT peptide is a new therapeutic agent and the principal DPEP-1 inhibitor in the Arch peptide medication pipeline. Arch also has a patent for repurposing the small chemical cilastatin, a recognized DPEP-1 inhibitor, to mitigate acute kidney injury induced by inflammation in various functions.
About the Phase II trial for LSALT Peptide
The Phase II trial was a multicenter, global, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled proof of concept research of the LSALT peptide to prevent organ inflammation believed to trigger ARDS and AKI in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). In COVID-infected individuals, ARDS is the primary cause of mortality.
The Phase II trial's composite main objective represents the serious impacts commonly encountered by COVID-19 patients who are hospitalized, and it was deemed acceptable for LSALT peptides' new method of action in inhibiting significant inflammation in the lungs and kidneys, and other organs.
