When it comes to startups, what are the verticals that you predominantly focus on?

We specialize in B2B SaaS based companies only, particularly in FinTech, Healthcare Tech, InsureTech, and regulatory and compliance sectors. However, we remain open to promising opportunities outside these verticals.

What, according to you, are the major pain points or challenges affecting the start-up market lately?

The financial services industry is on the brink of a significant transformation, driven by technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). From risk analysis to customer retention and acquisition, technology investments are crucial. The rapid growth of platforms like ChatGPT intensifies the urgency for these investments. Today, AI-based applications are vast in banking, investment management, and trading capital markets. It is revolutionizing service delivery, akin to the shift to cloud-based technology in the past. Embracing AI is pivotal for businesses aiming to stay competitive and meet the evolving demands of the industry. It enables enhanced risk assessment, personalized customer experiences, and optimized investment strategies. Integrating AI into financial services will reshape the entire spectrum of financial services, providing innovative and efficient solutions to consumers’ needs.

Will the momentum of generative AI also have an impact on the healthcare industry?

Absolutely. We have already seen a number of companies utilizing generative AI, for different purposes, where they can help the providers, the doctors, the hospitals with faster, quicker, diagnosis of the patient’s situation, analyzing historical, data, whether applied at a broad scale or to individual cases, and then coming up with insights for the providers. While it won’t replace providers, it will optimize their services and decision-making process in the coming years.

“Understanding business, its operational backgrounds, entrepreneur’s mentality, and navigating day-to-day challenges are strengths that build the organizational culture of the prospective portfolio companies”

What would you say entrepreneurs should look out for when it comes to employing a governance structure?

Simply opting for publicly available software without due diligence could potentially jeopardize patient privacy. A methodical approach is highly advised. I strongly recommend considering the utilization of a reputable company that specializes in generative AI. Such a company should have stringent protective measures in place, ensuring that boundaries and networks are secure and that patient data is not exposed to the public.

The last thing I want to have is my financial and healthcare data be opened up by a chatbot somewhere and AI trying to extract data for others. So, I want to trust a financial services company, a healthcare provider, and an insurance company that still uses technology, but protects my data by making sure it is not exposed to any external entities.

What are the other potential groundbreaking innovations that entrepreneurs and VCs like you should look out for?

We’ve been exploring companies that are built on blockchain technology. For enterprises considering the adoption of data-intensive technologies on a large scale, or those in the process of upgrading their existing platforms to more advanced solutions, blockchain offers an array of tools. One of the notable contributions is its distributed ledger system, which inherently provides a decentralized technology infrastructure. They’re called tokenization. Considering how blockchain can enhance data management, security, and transparency, it can be a valuable option for companies embracing data-driven technologies and platforms.

From your experience, what piece of advice would you like to share with your peers?

Focus on running the business more profitably and efficiently. Entrepreneurs and CEOs should prioritize cost control, market awareness, and client needs. Seek capital for growth, not to cover losses. Adopting this mentality ensures long-term success and profitability for businesses.
