Its bicarbonate-type dialysis solutions became mainstream in the 1980s, followed by continued refinement of electrolyte balance. Potassium concentrations were reduced from 2.5 to 2.0 mEq/L as managing hyperkalemia gained importance, while magnesium levels similarly shifted from 1.5 to 1.0 mEq/L, both now established as standard options.

Calcium concentrations evolved in response to changing therapies, decreasing from 3.5 mEq/L in the 1970s to 3.0 mEq/L with the wider use of activated vitamin D. The transition to calcium carbonate phosphate binders led to the introduction of 2.5 mEq/L formulations, and subsequent clinical mixing practices prompted Fuso to introduce a 2.75 mEq/L solution. Today, 2.75 mEq/L is the most widely used dialysis calcium concentration in Japan.

Building on this progression, Fuso Pharmaceutical Industries developed Kindaly Dialysis Solutions 5E, AF5 and AF5P to better tailor hemodialysis treatment to the aging dialysis population, patient conditions and concomitant drug use. Unlike standard dialysis solutions with fixed formulations, Kindaly dialysis drugs offer multiple formulations, including liquid, liquid-and-powder and powder types, further expanding dialysis fluid options. These solutions feature a potassium concentration of 2.3 mEq/L, a magnesium concentration of 1.2 mEq/L and a calcium concentration of 2.6 mEq/L. The products received regulatory approval in June 2020.

The compound is currently being evaluated in an international Phase 3 clinical trial.
